Business Gifts Provide Service Reminders

Some people might assume that a business gift is an archaic custom that is no longer relevant in today’s frantic business environment. Actually, a well-chosen gift goes a long way to establishing a long-term relationship with clients. Their memories of your service may fade, but the gift provides a permanent reminder of your service.

In past decades, some industries have had substantial problems with business gifts. Unscrupulous businesses, like those in the recording industry, had no principles about giving graft to radio companies to have their favored performer’s records promoted endlessly on radio stations. Many industries have initiated limits on gift giving to make sure that this kind of abuse doesn’t take place.

But, it’s possible to work within these limits and still provide gifts that are mementos of your services, or the service the recipient provided to you. For instance, you would want to provide a memento of service to a retiring staff member, or you may give a gift to congratulate someone on a new promotion. The most common type of gift giving is to show appreciation at the end of a business transaction or sale.

Here are some suggestions for business gift giving:

For retiring employees or advancing executives, quality is far more important than quantity. A beautiful leather calendar, personalized key rings, high quality pen/pencil sets are all examples of something that can be both attractive and useful.  These items can be used for years and continue to remind those employees of your admiration.

Participants of training or seminars enjoy receiving mementos of the training events. Personalized note pads or calendars are simple, inexpensive reminders of the event. Or, another great idea is to offer a book that reinforces the ideas learned in the training classes.

Annual gifts, such as holiday baskets are appropriate for small corporate offices. Many employees will appreciate a wine/cheese basket, fruit basket or some other edible goodie. This is a great gift in an office where all the employees can partake in the basket, but not a great choice for companies that have extended staff at other locations. These employees won’t get to indulge, and won’t appreciate being left out.

Business Gifts

The most typical gift is to the individual employee who has provided outstanding service or to whom you hope to initiate repeat business. For this individual, you want to give them small gifts that won’t endanger their corporate gift policies, but still remind them that you are appreciative. As an example, flowers or plants are a great gift to a gardener.

Calendars, mugs, mouse pads, and pens are all examples of inexpensive gifts that are appreciated. Best of all, most of these gifts can be customized with your name or company logo. What a better reminder of your connection to the recipient? And, when these items are displayed on the desk of the recipient, they are visible to other people in the company that may use your service. It’s a great subliminal selling point.

Sometimes, the best business gift is a well-written, personalized thank you note. Show your gratitude to the people that help make your business a success and you’ll have customers for life.
