Building Business Growth Into Your Vision
Business growth is something most companies assume will happen. A great product or service naturally sells itself, word of mouth marketing leads to more customers, and the business takes of like wild-fire, right? Well, not exactly.
No matter how good the product or service, it won’t sell itself. And businesses won’t expand into new areas or increase sales without a solid plan for business growth. The best plan for growing a business involves much of the same care used to nurture a garden or plant along -- it requires care and commitment.
First, the fundamental part of business growth is building on a solid business platform. That business platform is built on your ideals, beliefs, values about what is essential to your business. You have to believe passionately that you make the best widget that’s ever been manufactured and that can’t wait to tell the world about it. Growth is possible only when there is passion, an emotional connection, and energy to prod the company along.
Your company will grow when you spread that enthusiasm to everyone that works for you. And that sometimes takes a little bit of work. Not every employee is as invested in the company as you are. Sometimes they need to hear the gospel of your business to be inspired.
The first start is reviewing your businesses mission statement. You also need to bring your employees in to understand their view of your mission statement. Often their view needs refinement. Sometimes you need to make adjustments to your mission, or sometimes you need to train employees on why this is such an essential part of your mission and how your business will grow.
Your staff also needs to understand how your company measures up against your competition. What is it that makes you the better choice? What do you offer that makes your services better than your competition? These kind of discussions are important because they not only share information but the also allow a discussion that generates excitement and commitment amongst your employees.
Business Growth
Next, turn to your employees for ideas of how you can build upon your mission, values and products or services to grow your business. Do you need to add more supporting services to make it easier for your clients? Does your company profile, logo, marketing materials, business environment and employees match your vision and values? Your goal is to make sure that every part of your business that touches your clients is completely in line with your initial mission and values.
Finally, find out from your employees what you need to do boldly go into the next phase of your business. Do your employees share your vision and direction? If not, what do you need to get them to the place of supporting your efforts? Sometimes the people that work closely in your office are the best at filtering out your plans for growth and giving you the most feedback about your growth plan.
When you are passionate about your business, and you inspire the same kind of passion from the people that support you, your plan for business growth can’t fail. But it starts at the basic level, making sure that you continue build on your fundamental mission and values. Use that as your starting point and your simply can’t fail.
