Online Marketing
The world is a market place, and it has gone ‘online’. There was a time when people had to travel long distances to meet each other and meet up, to do business or for whatever purpose. There was once the ‘Silk Route’ that connected the Far East with the West and travelers went the distance to reach into new territories and carry out barter.
All that is thankfully gone. Now you can with just a click of the mouse do all that. And can business remain behind? Businesses big and small are going online (if they already do not have a web presence that is). They are not just happy to have a presence on the World Wide Web, they are even marketing themselves to reach out to an ever more number of prospective customers.
This act of marketing over the web is referred to as ‘online marketing’. But it is also referred to by many other names such as ‘internet marketing’ or simply ‘emarketing’. Online marketing or Internet marketing has not only captured the attention of the public, it has caught on like a wildfire. So much so that according to statistics, as many as 80% new visitors to a website these days come from a search engine. And naturally thus, website owners are trying to enhance their search engine visibility so that they can rank as high as possible. Because the higher the rank, the more the Internet traffic, which means that the business would also be that much more.
But search engine marketing is just one activity of online marketing. There are many more marketing plans that can be used which include affiliate marketing, email marketing, pay per click, blog marketing and the latest development which is social media marketing or Web 2.0. The aim of all this is the same – to achieve a higher search engine rank or to bring in more web traffic (often these two issues are related).
Online Marketing and Web Conversion Rate
This is the latest development in online marketing. After a website has enough traffic with various Internet marketing activities giving it the results, it begins to notice that most of this traffic is basically floating. That is, they just come and go without taking the desired action. And as a result of this, websites today have on an average a conversion rate of about 1.5% to 2%. In other words 98% of the traffic is not giving any results to the web business. If the visitor source is from a PPC campaign then it means that the business has to pay for this traffic and for them, the issue becomes more serious. They are facing a real threat of losing money.
So businesses are beginning to understand why it is important for them to increase their conversion rate and this is the latest development in online marketing.
Advantages Of Online Marketing
With online marketing a business opens it doors to unlimited possibilities. A business is not anymore limited anymore to the locality or the region, suddenly the world becomes its market. So the opportunities are unlimited and that is why online marketing is such a great attraction.
