The Internet offers a great opportunity for a small business to market itself on the Web. The fact is, if you had a small business in the traditional world, it would have been virtually impossible for you to compete with the big players that are out there. The differences are much less, the consumer base is larger, and the Internet presents a level playing field for all. In this day of outsourcing, many businesses are getting work done from others instead of hiring employees themselves. And so, the number of employees a business has may not be a correct indicator. The revenues earned may be the way to go.
A small business often starts off with a single person’s efforts. In many cases the person keeps doing is day job and does the work for some extra money. He tries to market himself and get projects, and then do the work efficiently and within time. Often small business marketing efforts become so popular that eventually the person decides to do this on a full time and leaves the day job. The small business begins to grow and he either keeps full time employees or outsourcers the work when he cannot do it alone anymore.

Your Own Web Presence: Purchase a domain name and select a hosting plan to get your website up there. There are web templates available free and so you can use them as a design. But if you think that they will not suit your needs, then you can get one designed by a professional. Do some search engine optimization yourself. Ask for inbound links from other websites and write a few articles about your area of business. This should increase your web visibility.
Email Marketing: Write something about your business and send emails to everyone you know with a link back to your website. You never know what they might be in need off, and so this might always help. Ask them to refer their friends and give away freebies for doing so. In fact you may also want to give away free bonuses with whatever you are offering – just an incentive for people to become your customers.
Become A Member Of Forums: There are online forums today on almost every topic. So go ahead and find a few and join up to become a member because this is where you will find others like you and also people who are interested in the product/service you are offering. Forums will let you network effectively.
Participate In Fairs: This is another great small business marketing idea. Get the word out there about your offerings. Meet new people and network to spread your business.
